Awards and Participation Incentives
You don't build a Festival and Event industry on your own, it takes a collective pride, passion and commitment from everyone to achieve. The following is a snapshot of our appreciation and a way of saying thank you to the entire Lake Taupo District, your hard work and effort is our greatest strength.
Erin Baker Award
An incentive Award, to recognise any entrant who participates in all four of Taupō’s premium events in one season. The Events, in time order are: Mizuno Half Marathon 1st Sunday every August OR Mizuno Off Road Half Marathon – 1st Sunday every September Contact Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge – last Saturday every November Taupō Triathlon – usually the first Sunday in February. Across the Lake Swim 4.2km – last Saturday every February Note: You must complete the whole event, not as a relay member. You have the choice of either of the two half marathons (road or off road). To register, simply tick the box on the Across the Lake Swim Entry form if you have completed the other three events. You will be notified by Sports Waikato to receive your award at the annual Taupō Sports Awards held in November each year. If you are unable to attend, the Award will be posted to you.
Cameron Brown Award
The Cameron Brown Award is open to any athlete who completes, in one season, the Erin Baker Award and Ironman NZ – held 1st Saturday every March.
63.3 SERIES (sponsored by Events Capital)
Awarded to any entrant who completes Taupo’s three half marathons in the same season. If the Erin Baker or the Cameron Brown is not quite you then give the 63.3 a go, three half marathons in three months, you can run or walk it's up to you either way it's a great way to keep fit and challenge yourself over the winter months. Those that complete all three are awarded a free tee shirt branded for bragging rights. Find out more here.

– HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM SECTION (sponsored by Events Capital)
Events Capital greatly appreciates and acknowledges the huge contribution made by all businesses within the district. We know from research that 60% of participants in festivals and events return to the district at a later date to spend time with us as a direct result of having a great experience.This award is presented to a hospitality or tourism business exhibiting excellence across all areas; inclusive but not limited to customer service, consistency, marketing and promotion, business practice.
IRONMAN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (sponsored by Events Capital)
Volunteers are the life blood of any Festival or Event, this could not be more true for the over 1000 that make Ironman New Zealand the success it is. Each year we ask those volunteers interested to fill out an entry and at the Volunteer party we draw two names, one female and one male. These lucky two receive a free entry and coaching package for next year's race along with goods and services provided by contributing local businesses such as Smiths Sports Shoes. What better way to say thanks to our volunteers and if you can guarantee one thing it's the unprecedented support they receive on race day from the rest of the volunteer family.
